Airbus executed a test flight with an A350 airplane, fueled with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The test flight is part of a project that tries to understand the emission performance of SAF. The project partners are Rolls Royce, German-based DLR and Neste.
Currently, the ASTM -standards for jet fuel allows for biofuel-blends of up to 50%, with the remainder being fossil based kerosene.
The project and the series of test are aimed to explore the use of higher blends of SAF in the near future.
