Public consultation open: review of the EU Renewable Energy Rules

Under the European Green Deal, the European Commission has committed to stronger action on climate change and will assess how the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions could responsibly be reduced by at least 50% to 55% by 2030.

The Commission has announced a review to assess how the renewable energy rules  in the Renewable Energy Directive (Directive 2018/2001/EU) can contribute to  a higher EU climate Ambition. The Commission also wants to explore ow to accelerate the transition to a more integrated energy system as outlined in the energy system integration & hydrogen strategies.

The public consultation is now open, until 9 February 2021 and follows the publication of the Inception Impact Assessment and a Roadmap feedback period (3 August 2020 – 21 September 2020). In total 374 parties provided feedback to the roadmap.
